This is a miniature axe head, which was my first successful blacksmith project.
I drifted the eye (hole), as a way to put it on a keychain.
After grinding away the rough edges I gave it a final heat cycle to give it a forged finish.
This is my second successful project. It is a bottle opener. The opening was creating by hammering in a little slot and than expanding its shape using the anvil's horn, and punches to give it the round shape, and stretch the metal.
In order to create the extrusion which prys up the cap, I used punches to hammer out a little lip. I used the horn to hammer in the sides of the handle, and used chisels to punch in groves along the handle. Finally I ground away the excess material.
This is the end of a railroad spike that broke off. This picture was taken as I was drawing out the head of the spike to match the bar's size.
This image shows the head of the spike heating up in the forge.
This was a in the process to become a leaf.
I isolated a thicker section of metal and shaped it to a cone, I than drew, and thinned out the stem.
After thinning out the stem, I bent it over allowing the finished product to be put on a keychain.
The final step was to flatten out the cone and draw out the sides giving it the leaf shape, however during the process the stem broke off due to repeated bending and cold forging. It was a good first attempt.
This is in the process of making a crescent moon. I chiseled in grooves to produce a rough shape than gave it the rounded shape on the anvil's horn.
